Google is integrating its AI-powered chatbot, Gemini, into smartwatches. The company announced that Gemini will be available on Wear OS watches from Google, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. With this development, Gemini is replacing Google Assistant.
Gemini is being integrated into smartwatches
Gemini is becoming available today on models like the Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch. According to Google, Gemini offers a much more advanced experience than Google Assistant on Wear OS watches.
Users will not only be able to ask questions from their watches but also perform actions within apps. Functions such as sending messages, creating playlists, and getting email and message summaries can be performed directly from the watch. Simply saying “Hey Google” is all it takes to activate Gemini.
The new Galaxy Watch 8 series is the first smartwatch to integrate with Gemini. Gemini is also available on other watch models running Wear OS 4 and later. Supported brands include Google’s own watches, as well as Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.
Google stated that Gemini’s functionality on watches will be very similar to how it functions on phones. Voice commands can be used on the watch to retrieve information, perform various app operations, and simplify daily communication. This means that Google Assistant will be replaced by the company’s latest AI model after years away.
